THE GRANTHAM CANAL
British Waterways Badge
A Report entitled "Waterway Restoration Priorities in the U.K." includes this local asset high on its list.  Prepared by IWAAC (the Inland Waterways Amenity Advisory Council) following detailed surveys and assessment the release of this information is nothing short of Good News! for the many people who so thoroughly enjoy the facilities for enjoying our countryside available  here.

The canal traces its way for over 33 miles in Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire - passing through areas of some 6 Local Authorities - and is owned by British Waterways. All of these bodies, together with the Inland Waterways Association, the Grantham Canal Restoration Society and the Grantham Navigation Association amalgamate to form the GRANTHAM CANAL PARTNERSHIP.

The aims and objects of the Partnership are "to promote the long-term, sustainable restoration of the Grantham Canal to full navigable status and to provide other compatible facilities along the canal corridor".
