INTERNATIONAL FOOD FAYRE
Christmas shoppers in Melton Market Place on Sunday 10th December 2000 took advantage of an opportunity to sample and purchase local as well as international cuisine and products.
Organised by Sue Gowans, funded by donations from Melton Borough Council and the Melton Mowbray Town Estate, the event was a huge success.
The Twinning Association offered Dutch apple pies, pancakes and a variety of Polish food and occupied a prime position with their two stalls

The Army Catering Support Regiment were on parade - Tommy Cook in charge beneath the sign of his illustrious ancestor and the Farmers' Market showing an increasingly popular presence at events of this nature and flying the flag for Britain

There was a rush of people to nearby Egerton Park at 11:30 to welcome Santa Claus - many glad cries of "There's no rain dear" as family groups headed for the helicopter landing site on a fine sunny morning. The Cricket Pavilion acting on this occasion as a temporary Airport Terminal for "Melton Mowbray International". Please note there is no truth in the rumour that the CAA intend extending the NS runway to Great Dalby!
the Great Man quickly avoided Customs and in the absence of seasonal snow was whisked away, (in a modern contrivance acting as the traditional sleigh) to delight those waiting at the Market Place with his early presence and presents.
