THE GRANTHAM CANAL
Along the towpath

Considerable work has been done, funded by some of the Local Authorities, to areas of the towpath - reinforcing to lessen the effects of inevitable erosion.  The results of this are much to the benefit of walkers and cyclists and in nowise detracts from the "natural" or open countryside feeling when enjoying yourself along the canal.  Further works are in hand.

But even where no works other than normal husbandry, including mowing and hedge trimming, have taken place the view ahead is still enticing.

The View Ahead

We proceed by carpets of violets (these appeared on 21st February 2000) and no one rushes (!) later in the year.

There is no less action and activity in Autumn and Winter and on many days you may see the local Hunt in full cry in the vicinity of the Canal.
